I’m so conflicted about this one because I wanted to love it so much and there were parts that I definitely did. My biggest issue with this story is the pacing.
Last to Leave the Room by Caitlin Starling
This was a strange and creepy read! I loved the blend of science fiction and horror. Overall, I thought it was a good read, a solid three-star for me, and I’d read from this author again.
Perfectly Nice Neighbors by Kia Abdullah
This was another in the list of thrillers this year that were just okay for me. It was a good read and I’d recommend it to thriller lovers. It just wasn’t anything that totally blew my mind or will be particularly memorable as time goes on. I will definitely read from this author again.
What the River Knows by Isabel Ibañez
I feel like this story had so much potential that it just didn’t quite live up to for me. I went into this book thinking it could definitely be a five star read for me, but sadly I’m settling with three.
Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll
Overall, I thought it was a good read, and an important one. It’s a solid three star experience for me. I’d definitely recommend it to thriller readers who want a fresh take on such harrowing true events.
How to Find a Missing Girl by Victoria Wlosok
I don’t think I’m exactly the intended audience for this, so while my personal reading experience was a three-star, I can easily see it being four or five stars for others. It hit all the marks and expectations for this genre.
People to Follow by Olivia Worley
I’m loving that young adult novels are trending and growing into the new generation. The influencer culture is such a perfect theme for today’s teen readers. Overall, I think this is a great debut and I’d be interested to see what this author writes next!
Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror by Jordan Peele
It was all a little underwhelming and not as exciting as I wanted. I did like that there was a very wide variety of types and tropes. There’s something for everyone.
It didn’t full live up to it’s potential: A Multitude of Dreams by Mara Rutherford
I’m so sad to say that this one was a little disappointing to me. It is definitely my least favorite of this author’s books thus far. It’s unfortunate because it had so much conceptual potential that just wasn’t executed compellingly. Overall, this one is just okay for me.
This Is How We End Things by R.J. Jacobs
I had a really hard time getting into this one for some reason. Overall, it was just an okay, debut, locked-room mystery. It had some good twists but in a lot of ways fell really flat. The potential wasn’t quite reached.
The Salvation Gambit by Emily Skrutskie
Am I completely floored? Not really; it probably won’t be the most memorable for me years from now. But did I enjoy the experience? Yes ,it was a good read.
Night of the Witch (Witch and Hunter #1) by Sara Raasch and Beth Revis
It was just an okay read for me. I liked it enough though to continue with the series. I am definitely willing to give it another go and see how things develop further. But as someone who has read a LOT of YA fantasy, this isn’t anything mind-blowingly memorable. I just needed a little more of that special something from it.
