This was a mess. It was like the book itself didn’t know what it wanted to be or say – a buffet of genres with no central motivation. It just left me confused, wanting, wondering what I just read and why.
The Reformatory by Tananarive Due
I’m so conflicted about this one because I wanted to love it so much and there were parts that I definitely did. My biggest issue with this story is the pacing.
What the River Knows by Isabel Ibañez
I feel like this story had so much potential that it just didn’t quite live up to for me. I went into this book thinking it could definitely be a five star read for me, but sadly I’m settling with three.
The Invisible Hour by Alice Hoffman
The writing is lyrical, flowy, immersive, and poignant. The story is powerful, magical, and emotional. The romance is so cute and swoon-worthy.

Not As Good As I Was Hoping: The Last Heir to Blackwood Library by Hester Fox
In theory and conceptually, this book has all the things I should love. But the execution just isn’t compelling enough. There are parts that I like, but equally parts that I struggled with. Even though this particular story isn’t my favorite, I liked the writing style and world-building and the conclusion of events.
You have to read this one! Divine Rivals (Iris at the Front #1) by Rebecca Ross
I’m in love with everything about this book – the lyrical writing, the cheeky banter, the historical elements, and the magical realism. This is an enchanting story and I couldn’t get enough. It’s a warm and heartfelt tale set against a ruthless and agonizing backdrop.
Dark, Evocative, Fantastical Mythology: Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati
This book had me from the start and never let go. If you love Greek mythology, its fantastical stories, and the stark reality of its dark nature, should definitely read this one.
Gritty, Authentic, and Deeply Emotional: The Shadow of Perseus by Claire Heywood
This book had me hooked and I loved every minute of it. I highly recommend this one to readers of all genres. I think everyone will find something they love about this story. It is definitely a five-star read for me and I can’t wait to see what this author blesses us with next!
ARC Review: Children of Ragnarök (The Runestone Saga #1) by Cinda Williams Chima
For me, it was just ok, I found myself wanting to get into it and trying to care more than I actually did. Regardless of my less than glowing own personal experience with this story, I do think that the right audience will like it. If you like books with dense lore, complex mythology, slow-build plot, historical vibes, and more adult high-fantasy in nature, then this might be the perfect one for you.
ARC Review: The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia: A Review
This story is definitely flat in comparison to some of her other work, which I know can happen to the best of us when we are trying to top previous successes. I still look forward to seeing what else she has in the future; but for me, this one is just ok.
Mini Book Review: A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes
If you love mythology and alluring twists on the classics, you’ll love this book.
