It wasn’t the most epic, memorable romantasy, but I still liked it. If you’re a lover of the genre, don’t expect anything new or fresh. If you’re looking to get into the genre, I think this is a great one to start with.
ARC Review: The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown – Fantasy
I have mixed feelings about this one. I somehow just never felt completely immersed, totally invested, nor deeply connected with the story.
ARC Review: The Tainted Cup (Shadows of the Leviathan #1) by Robert Jackson Bennett – Fantasy
This is going to be a favorite book of the year (easiest five-star thus far) and quite possibly of all time. Everything was perfection for me.
Queens of Themiscyra (The Grecian Women Trilogy #3) by Hannah Lynn
I highly recommend to any readers that love mythology and retellings! I will definitely be looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
A Spartan’s Sorrow (The Grecian Women Trilogy #2) by Hannah Lynn
This just really wasn’t the most enjoyable Clytemnestra retelling for me personally, but I am still interested in reading this author’s other retellings with characters I’m not quite as familiar with.
Compass and Blade by Rachel Greenshaw
This is a solid YA fantasy debut, for readers who love a sea-faring adventure. This one is a fun, fast, exciting read that will definitely find its audience who love it. From the writing alone, I would definitely be interested to read more from this author.
Faebound (Faebound #1) by Saara El-Arifi
It’s one of my most anticipated books for the year and I went into it fully believing that it could be a five-star for me, but sadly it wasn’t. The saying that it fell flat, was exactly how I felt about this one.
ARC Review: The Djinn Waits a Hundred Years – Historical/Horror/Fantasy
This was a mess. It was like the book itself didn’t know what it wanted to be or say – a buffet of genres with no central motivation. It just left me confused, wanting, wondering what I just read and why.
ARC Review: A Fate Inked in Blood (Saga of the Unfated #1) by Danielle L. Jensen – Fantasy
Obsessed!!! I loved everything about it. Probably going to be a new favorite fantasy series of mine. All the stars for this one!
Best of 2023: Fantasy & Science Fiction Books (My 5-Star Reads)
With Goodreads Choice Awards becoming largely a popularity contest, I decided that this year I wanted to share what I consider to be the best new books that I read in 2023. These are my top, five-star, fantasy and science fiction reads from 2023.
Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands (Emily Wilde #2) by Heather Fawcett
I don’t think I’ll be continuing this series if there is more to come. This second book has lost all of my interest. My advice, read the first one for all its worth and pretend that it ends there.
A Reckless Oath (Heartless Fates #2) by Kaylie Smith
Y’all… I am obsessed with this series!!! It is so freaking fantastic. I devoured both this book and the first one and I still can’t get enough of this world and these characters.
