This month’s book selections are here!
Book of the Month is one of my favorite subscription boxes for readers and book lovers. I get so excited seeing that blue box at my door! This is one subscription I’m hooked on and they also have a great rewards program too.
Every month they curate a selection of books for you to choose from. They are hardbacks, highly-anticipated new releases, from a range of genres. You can choose one or more from that month’s selections and from previous months, or skip that month and save your credit for later.
If you aren’t a member yet or want to learn all about how it works and if it’s worth it, here’s everything you need to know about BOTM!
For December, we have five books to choose from.

Here are December’s selections and which ones I’m planning on getting:
December Books:
Kiss Her Once for Me by Alison Cochrun
Genre: Romance
Pages: 368
Publication: November 1st, 2022
No surprise here that we get an exciting seasonal pick for this month that revolves around the holidays. The Goodreads synopsis sums this one up perfectly as: “a festive romantic comedy about a woman who fakes an engagement with her landlord…only to fall for his sister.”
Babel by R.F. Kuang
Genre: Adult Fantasy
Pages: 545
Publication: August 23rd, 2022
This book became so popular that BOTM decided to add it as a selection this month even though it was released a few months ago. The story is set in 1828 at Oxford and is said to be dark academia at its finest.
All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham
Genre: Mystery/Thriller
Pages: 336
Publication: January 10th, 2023
We’re getting a super early release with this one, how exciting! I was blessed with the opportunity to read an advanced digital copy of this book and I really enjoyed it. I am actually thinking about choosing this as my pick so that I can have a physical copy.
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Circus Train by Amita Parikh
Genre: Historical Fiction
Pages: 352
Publication: March 22nd, 2022
This book is a two-decade journey across Europe with a traveling circus. It is a story about loss and finding the courage to push through. The daughter of a magician, Lena loves the world of science and medicine. She rescues an orphan, Alexandre, and together they must face the escalating conflicts of WWII.
The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton
Genre: Literary Fiction
Pages: 336
Publication: December 6th, 2022
Although in the literary category, this story has a dystopian, science-fiction setting. The world has fallen into chaos due to catastrophic weather patterns. It is a reflection and a call to action for humanity to preserve our world, lest we see this future. This is the other book I am considering choosing. It has a very intriguing premise and it sounds like the writing will be lyrical and moving.
So what are my thoughts on this month’s selections…
Wellllll… I’m gonna be honest with y’all (you can always trust that I will be 100% real with everything I share).
I’m actually kind of disappointed.
One of the selling points of BOTM is that the books are new and upcoming releases. So the fact that we have three out of five of the books to choose from that are from earlier in the year… it’s a bit of a let down for me personally.
While I know that December is not a big month for publishers to release new books, I’m sure there are other books that could have been chosen instead of ones that are several months old at this point.
I’m not at all saying that these books are bad, and I understand that they try to give us a diverse selection of genres.
I am glad that we got one book that is holiday themed, even if I do wish we had at least one more wintery selection for this season.
With that being said, here are two new add-ons for this month:
New Add-Ons this month:
A Wilderness of Stars by Shea Ernshaw
Genre: YA Fantasy
Pages: 400
Publication: November 29th, 2022
Vega is an astronomer who reads the stars’ message that there may be a cure to the illness that is sweeping across the land. This story is said to beautifully emotional and filled with magic, adventure, and romance.
A Quiet Life by Ethan Joella
Genre: Contemporary Fiction
Pages: 304
Publication: November 29th, 2022
In a small suburb in winter, three people are grieving over the loss of loved ones. Their three stories are woven together in this story that is said to be profoundly emotional, yet also a celebration of humanity.
