It’s a short, fun read with a fairly well-developed cast of characters and an engaging series of events. It has some shining, relatable moments:
Mini Book Review: The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
This is a lovely debut! I can’t wait to read the next in the series, which I already picked up. I loved Paige – her snarky attitude, her willpower to keep fighting, and her intuitive calling to a greater mission.
Book Review: Circe by Madeline Miller
Madeline Miller’s writing is spectacular and meticulous, the way she is able to say so much with so few words. Every choice is carefully made and has meaning that brings life to the story.
Book Review: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
This. Book. Hit. So. Hard. It’s one of those stories that after you’re done, you can’t read anything else for a few days because you are still processing the emotional fallout. If you love forbidden slow-burn romance, lore of angels and demons, and a sassy tenacious female protagonist – you will love this book.
Mini Book Review: Half Sick of Shadows by Laura Sebastian
The plot is dark and dangerous and will keep you turning the pages. It was disturbing and depressing but provocative in the way it was meant to be.
Mini Book Review: The Divines by Ellie Eaton
Overall, it was not a terrible read, the dark themes were engaging, but it wasn’t as captivating as I’d hoped it could be.
Book Review: Dark Horses by Susan Mihalic
To be honest, I’m still not really sure how I feel about this book. It was haunting, and a little disturbing. I’m not sure I can honestly recommend this book, just safely because the themes are so dark and horrifying.
Book Review: The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Picoult
Overall, it was an enjoyable read and I do love this book, even with a few nit-picky issues along the way. Anyone who is familiar with Jodi Picoult’s design of perfectly flawed characters and her manner of crafting stories that make you contemplate your existence, will also really like this book – even if it is not quite up to par with some of her previous, more spectacular works.
Mini Book Review: Year One by Nora Roberts
I am saddened that I didn’t enjoy this that much. I love Nora Roberts, but I just couldn’t get into this one. Overall, I was just kind of disappointed at the blandness, a stark contrast to many of her other renowned novels.
Book Review: Little Nothing by Marisa Silver
Dark, cruel, and not for the lighthearted, Little Nothing is strange in all the best ways. Hard to pin in any one genre, it is somewhere between literary fiction and magical realism. If you are looking for a book that makes you grapple with some of humanity’s most universal and existential crises, this is it.
