Synopsis:
Paige Mahoney is a dreamwalker. A clairvoyant who works in the criminal underground of London for their leader, Jaxon Hall. It’s 2059 and the Scion government has deemed gifted individuals like her a threat to society. Paige is kidnapped and taken to the city of Oxford, controlled by a powerful race of beings, called the Rephaite, that came from another world. She is assigned to the Warden, who is now her master. But Paige seeks freedom for herself and the others who are enslaved in Oxford. As alliances are formed and plans are made, no one, not even the Scion, is safe from the devastating consequences of rebellion.
Review:
This is a lovely debut! I can’t wait to read the next in the series, which I already picked up. I loved Paige – her snarky attitude, her willpower to keep fighting, and her intuitive calling to a greater mission. I would have liked more depth to some of the other characters. Further development of Paige’s relationship prior to the climax of the story would have made it more believable and less of a forced stretch. But overall, I enjoyed this aspect of the story nonetheless. The world-building in this book enraptured me into the heart of the story. It is quite complex but I didn’t find it difficult to follow. The plot, although a little slow at times, is exciting and kept me turning the pages. I know I’m invested in a story when the ending has me emotionally torn. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a daring heroine and a world of magic.
