I devoured this book! I read it in one day because I couldn’t put it down. Terri Parlato is fast becoming a new favorite thriller author of mine.
The Vacation by John Marrs
This is my first experience with John Marrs and I’m happy to report it was a good one! I will definitely be checking out some of his other books after reading this one.
The Engagement Party by Finley Turner
It was kind of bland and forgettable, basic in its plot and execution. I never fully engaged with it like I wanted to.
Last Girl Breathing by Court Stevens
I love the small-town, rural vibes and atmosphere. It makes for a great backdrop in thrillers. There are many players in this story and nearly everyone has experienced grief and tragedy of some kind.
Beyond That, the Sea by Laura Spence-Ash
This was such a surprisingly enjoyable read for me! It was very emotional. I’m not a frequent historical fiction reader, but occasionally I come across one that is really impactful for me. This is definitely one of those.
Let Him In by William Friend
I have mixed feelings about this one. There were parts where I was totally hooked and invested, but there were also parts of the story that pulled me out of the experience.
November 2023 Book of the Month Selections!
Book of the Month is one of my favorite subscription boxes for readers and book lovers. I get so excited seeing that blue box at my door! For November, we have six books to choose from, plus two new add-ons.
The Gift by Freida McFadden
This is just a short novella, a fun, fast read. It’s creepy and ominous and the sense of dread builds throughout. I really enjoyed the way it ended.
When I’m Dead (Black Harbor #3) by Hannah Morrissey
This is the third book in a series but I read it as a standalone and I felt that it worked perfectly well as such. I enjoyed the writing style, she will definitely be an auto-read author for me in the future. I think the hype for this series is well-deserved.
The Reformatory by Tananarive Due
I’m so conflicted about this one because I wanted to love it so much and there were parts that I definitely did. My biggest issue with this story is the pacing.
Christmas Presents by Lisa Unger
I liked the characters, the plot was fast-paced and kept me turning the pages, the setting was well-crafted. It just has everything you want and expect from a thriller like this.
Last to Leave the Room by Caitlin Starling
This was a strange and creepy read! I loved the blend of science fiction and horror. Overall, I thought it was a good read, a solid three-star for me, and I’d read from this author again.
