Publisher’s Synopsis:
“Eve St. Clair desperately needs help sorting reality from her fearful imaginings when ghostly voices seem to haunt the Victorian house in Sunderland, England, that she inherited from her uncle. Online research leads to a group that claims to offer just the aid she’s seeking. But can Ransom King’s handpicked team of investigators truly banish Eve’s night terrors?
Since the deaths of his wife and daughter, Seattle billionaire Ransom King has devoted himself to researching parapsychology and debunking the frauds who prey upon the bereaved. But Eve is a psychologist herself, clearly sane, and her sincerity is palpable. King senses a very real danger stalking the beautiful divorcée. As his interest in her case turns deeply personal, he will move heaven and earth to uncover the truth—no matter how shocking—and save the woman he loves.”
My Review:
This was such a fun, exciting read! I really enjoyed this story. I love the paranormal investigation aspect of the plot. I loved learning about the history of the places and people and trying to solve things along with the characters. It was a fast read for me because I couldn’t put it down and I really wanted to know why everything was happening. It has a lot of commentary and questions about the afterlife and the existence of a higher power. There were a few elements in the story that felt a little out of place (I won’t be too specific because it will spoil things). I don’t know, they just felt kind of random and weird to be included and it didn’t really further the overall story arc. The romance almost felt like an entirely separate story and I wanted it to feel more cohesive (and less awkward) with everything else. But none of these minor things took away from my overall enjoyment. The paranormal investigation was definitely the highlight of the story and I was hooked into the mystery and history of it all. If you love things like The Poltergeist, you’ll love this story! I definitely recommend it. It is a fun, fast, thrilling horror. I will definitely be reading from this author again in the future. I’m excited to see what book comes out next.
