Monsters Born and Made Tanvi Berwah
I had the opportunity to read an excerpt (first six chapters) of this book! Here are my thoughts:
Well, it was a rough start in the first few chapters; I had to re-read it. I was having a hard time grasping what was happening. The writing is choppy and the micro-flashbacks muddle things a bit. I also had difficulty perceiving many of the world-building concepts in the beginning, with a lot of lingo being thrown at us at once without further explanation to the references. The sequencing of events feels a little chaotic and skips you around in the start.
However, with all that being said, by chapter four it all starts to smooth itself out and I found myself getting immersed into the story. I think the first three chapters just need a little reworking to give us more depth up-front, to help with the flow and readers’ comprehension.
I already like the main character, Koral, and her struggles within the family dynamics. The story world has a really interesting social structure and a unique atmosphere. Although, I can’t help noticing the striking similarities in the plot to The Scorpio Races. Still, I found the start of this story intriguing and I am definitely interested in continuing to read the full book.
By the end of this excerpt I felt the writing really started to find its flow and the pacing got its rhythm. In the sixth chapter we get hints of some layers being added to the plot that left me wanting more. It has definitely piqued my interest and I would love to find out what happens! It will be going on my TBR list for sure.
My Rating of the Excerpt: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Blood of Troy by Claire M. Andrews
This is the second book in this trilogy. I absolutely cannot wait to read it! Here is my review of the first book, Daughter of Sparta:
A tale of a female Spartan hero – say less! I have long been fascinated with ancient tales of Sparta (300 is one of my favorite movies), so I knew I had to read this. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. If you are also a mythology lover like me, you will definitely enjoy this book. Yet another book I’m dying for the sequel to release in 2022. The characters and their relationships are loveable and endearing. The plot is fast-paced and action-packed. Everything you would expect from this book it delivers.

The Ballad of Never After by Stephanie Garber
This is one of my top five most anticipated reads for this year and I’m dying with the wait for it! It is the second book in what I believe will be a trilogy. Here is my review of the first book, Once Upon a Broken Heart:
Officially obsessed with this book! I read it in two days because I just could not put it down. I don’t know how I’m going to wait so long before being able to read the sequel – it left us on a major cliffhanger. I loved the characters dearly and I know you will too. The romance is an exciting slow-burn undercurrent. The plot hooks you from the first page and never lets go. The combination of world-building and lore is wonderful. I don’t even have words to say how much I loved this book.
